Are you thinking of cosmetic treatments this year but don’t know where to start?

Have you been thinking about having botox or filler for awhile but not sure if it’s the right treatment for you?

If you’ve answered YES to either of the questions above, then this blog is written especially for you.

I see a lot of Botox virgins in my clinic – women who’ve never had any cosmetic treatments before and curious to know what’s possible for the concern they have. They’ve tried all the creams and facials, but nothing seems to be working.

Sometimes Botox is the appropriate treatment. Sometimes it’s not. And I do say “No” and have turned patients away if what they are asking for will result in them looking over-done. My patients stay with me because I am very bespoke, very careful and ensure my patient’s look natural and gracefully ageing 🙂

During my consultation and after facial assessment, I like to take the time to educate my patients so they understand what’s causing the ageing concern and what options are available. With better understanding, I believe we can make better decisions and feel more empowered knowing what can be done with each passing year.

Here’s how I break it down. Hope you find this “Easy Guide to Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures” useful.

Ps: I’ve included useful links to the specific treatments at the end of the blog

There are 6 main categories all aimed at improving common ageing signs:-

  • loss of volume/natural contours
  • deepening of lines and wrinkles
  • skin laxity
  • muscle hyperactivity
  • fat expansion at the bottom of the face and depletion at the top
  • dehydrated skin

Here goes:-

1. Relaxing a muscle

Botox can be used to reduce dynamic wrinkles that are caused by muscle movement eg frown lines, forehead lines, crows feet, bunny lines and turkey neck.

2. Fill a line

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Dermal Filler can be used to reduce appearance of lines, wrinkles, and folds eg marionettes (corner of mouth to chin) and nasolabial (nose to mouth laugh) lines.

3. Replace volume lost –

HA Dermal Filler of varying density can be used to improve hollowness under the eyes, restore natural contours of cheek, chin and jawline. Some areas can also use Collagen Stimulator eg Ellanse which stimulates collagen in the long term and has a longer lasting effect. PDO threads + PRP (platelet rich plasma or Vampire Facelift) can also be used to stimulate collagen.

4. Reposition volume/ Lifting

HA Dermal Fillers or Collagen Stimulators can to a certain extent lift the tissues/skin depending on the patient’s starting point and the practitioner’s expertise.

A good treatment to lift the tissues (if appropriate) is with Thread Lifts. I must stress this is not the same as a Surgical Facelift but is a good preventative treatment. Some patients can delay the need for surgery with Thread Lifting for a few years while some benefit from a Facelift. Every face is different so it’s best to assess for best recommendation.

5. Skin Firming

Radiofrequency, PRP (platelet rich plasma or Vampire Facial), PDO threads that are more stimulating than lifting and Mesotherapy all help with skin firming. Which one depends on your budget, your lifestyle and your starting point. This usually require a few sessions for maximum results.

6. Skin Rejuvenation

Skin peels, Microneedling, Sublative Skin Resurfacing, skin boosting with Mesotherapy, PRP or Hyaluronic Acid are all great options for skin rejuvenation. Which one depends on your budget, your lifestyle and your starting point. This usually require a few sessions for maximum results.
